This is a board based off of a board game idea I had. There are a few obvious points of play which should be acknowledged.
1. Every stallion needs to have a territory/homestead.
2. Until married, a mare has free reign as to where she can go, from Ponyville to the friendly outskirts of stallions' territories. Once married, she cannot enter the territories of stallions that are not her husband unless she is invited by a friend or family member who is married to that stallion.
3. Of course, before talking about marriage, there are several character relationships prior to marriage.
4. In order to develop romantic relationships, of course, relationships need to be built up to begin with. This isn't love at first site or from zero to "I love you, let's get married!" in 2 seconds flat. This needs to be credible relationships.
5. Good chemistry increases favor potential and decreases offense potential while bad chemistry decreases favor potential and increases offense potential. This can cut both ways, male or female.
6. Species can affect chemistry between characters. Usually those of the same species usually have greater chemistry with each other than usual due to being similar. This might not always be the case, however (for example, if Rarity has had a bad history with unicorn suitors or other huffy unicorns, she may choose to have bad chemistry with unicorns). Some ponies may have good chemistry with other races, though race will usually have only a neutral effect on chemistry, unless otherwise dictated.
7. There are five personality types: Brave, Proud, Shy, Flirty, and Friendly. Usually ponies of the same disposition will have good chemistry, though proud ponies may bump heads. However, it is up to the player to decide what personalities a pony has good, bad, or neutral chemistry with.
8. Courtship will be like in real life. Experiences together, gifts, romantic words, and other gestures are all ways to try to build favor towards marriage. Building favor with family members of the target spouse is a good way to build favor as well (For example, if Flim were to pursue Applejack, he would liekly have bad chemistry with Big Mac but could build favor with Applebloom to have a positive influence in the family).
9. Only once favor is good enough between the mare and stallion can they marry, should they feel comfortable with it. Then the mare will move onto the stallion's property.
10. Gameplay continues well after marriage has taken place. Even once all the mares have married stallions, gameplay can continue as long as the players want, even to future generations.
11. A character can have non-romantic friends of the opposite gender as well. Romantic pursuits will be up to the character/player. A mare doesn't have to marry a stallion just because she talked to him.
12. Please avoid making your characters their own love interests.
