Personal Life
History: Unlike many of the stallions in Equestria, Karat was married to his work long before ever thinking of meeting mares personally. Even when he did turn his attention to mares, he just didn’t give them a real second thought. After all, there were so many gemstones to be uncovered and studied. There was so much carving and molding to be done. Jewelry was an artform that his family had perfected over generations. The closest he ever got to love was his extensive line of wedding rings and bridal chokers. He has seen many every stallion for thirty years come and go to get rings to propose with and is perfectly fine, so long as they make their decision quickly and don’t gush too much over their brides to be. Drool leaves such a stain on the display glass. He still lives in a loft above his ring shop in the East District. There, he continues his constant business of attending to couples that are destined to be wed as usual.

“Hmph. Another day, I suppose.” Karat unlocked the door and flipped the sign to ‘open.’ He trotted back to behind the counter in his shop, rubbing his head. “Well, I hope everything is going well. Jewel imports have been slow this month, so I hope I can get a new shipment, before some billionaire play-stallion like Fancy Pants comes in here needing ten rings. Great guy. Bad timing, usually.”
He carefully positioned each ring inside of the glass display and hummed to himself. Marriage was great for business. Those rings also sold for more than his array of costume rings. Apparently ponies didn’t consider rings to be too comfortable outside of wedding rings. He never understood why. He took the same care and precision, which kept him up night after night, with every ring, so there really should not be any complaints. However, as he adjusted a rather sizable diamond ring with a silver band, most likely intended for an Earth Pony, though he could readjust the band size, he turned his head to the ringing of the bell over his door, a smile a mile wide. “Well, hello. How can I help you today?”
